Ocean Opportunity jumpstarted its 'Exploration Technologies Group' as a cooperative in 2005 to catalyze projects, of varying scale, in the area of advanced human intervention of the ocean. This working group was formed in direct response to early technical diving for science programs that we were involved with through NOAA's Caribbean Marine Research Center from 1999-2005. We welcome newly proposed projects. Below is a brief synopsis of the co-op's work to-date.

flagship project | assembly of an 'integrated life system'
Beginning in 2005, Ocean Opportunity set out to assemble an 'integrated life system' as a best of breed assemblage of both custom and COTS components, with the specific intent of advancing scientific exploration. A functional prototype was completed in 2007, and work is currently underway to refine system subassemblies. This work provides the catalyst for all OO projects related to undersea technology.

student internships
The Exploration Technologies Group provides a platform to host student interns in the field of ocean and life support engineering. Those interested should contact us with inquiries.

articles & technical papers
Throughout the many evolutions of our field projects, tips, tools, and techniques have been developed. We have collated these as a series of articles and technical papers below. While freely available, we would appreciate a small donation to OO should you use these for any educational/instructional purpose. Those interested in publishing the articles via web or in print are welcome and invited to contact us for licensing opportunities.
